How to move your music from another distributor while limiting the risk of losing your accumulated earnings

A practical answer to a specific question independent artists face in digital distribution — what actually happens, and what you can do about it, step by step, with no term left unexplained.

01

Prepare the master

Export the final mix as an uncompressed WAV file — the standard is 24-bit / 48kHz. Listen to the file all the way through, from beginning to end, on headphones and on a phone speaker. Check the start and the end for clicks, and don't leave extra silence at either end.

✓Uncompressed WAV, 24-bit / 48kHz
✓A full listen on two devices
✓No clipping, no clicks, no extra silence

Cover art that passes review

Your cover art travels with the release to every store. The spec is 3000×3000 pixels, RGB. Keep text minimal and readable at thumbnail size, and avoid platform logos, account handles, prices and links — stores reject cover art that carries them.

✓3000×3000 pixels, RGB
✓Readable at thumbnail size
✓No platform logos, handles or links

Metadata and codes

Metadata is how the world finds you: an artist name spelled the same way on every release, the real title with no decoration, and the correct language and genre tags. The codes — ISRC for the recording and UPC for the release — are assigned during preparation; you don't need to buy them anywhere.

✦ Spelling drift is the most common first-release mistake — «ليلى نور», «ليلىنور» and «ليلى ن.» become three different artists in the stores.
04

Choose the release date

Give yourself room. A date several weeks out leaves space for review, delivery and pitching before day one. Line the date up with anything you control — a video, a show, a run of posts — so the release lands with support behind it rather than alone.

05

Request your invite

Mazufa works by invitation only. Completed applications enter a human review queue as capacity allows. Submitting does not create an account; those accepted may receive a dedicated preparation invite.

06

After acceptance

After preparation, your release is packaged to spec and delivered to every platform, and its data is pitched to the appropriate editorial and algorithmic surfaces. From there, watch your dashboard: streams, saves and playlist adds, per platform and per country.

Why do artists think about leaving another distributor?

Another distributor was one of the first music distribution platforms, but its model of fixed annual fees for every album and song has become a burden for many independent artists. With the appearance of annual platforms, switching has become a logical option. The problem is not the decision but the execution: how do you move without losing your accumulated earnings or affecting your streaming data on the platforms?

Step one: take out your accumulated earnings before anything else

Log in to your account with the other distributor and check the full earnings balance. Request a withdrawal of all accumulated amounts before cancelling your subscription or deleting any release.

  • Go to the “Earnings” section and make sure all earnings have reached your withdrawable balance.
  • Remember that some platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music delay sending the data by 30 to 60 days, so do not rush.
  • Save the detailed earnings statement (Excel or PDF) as a future reference.
  • Wait until the pending amounts reach you before starting to delete releases.

Step two: document your releases precisely

Before deleting anything, keep a full record of every distributed work. This documentation protects you from any later dispute and makes redistribution easier.

  • The name of each release (album or single) and its date.
  • The ISRC code for each track and the UPC code for the album.
  • The names of the platforms each release appears on.
  • Screenshots of the song pages on Spotify, Apple Music and others.

Step three: choose your new platform and sign up with it first

Do not delete your releases from the other distributor before you are ready to publish immediately on the new platform. A time gap between deletion and republishing means your songs disappear from the platforms temporarily, which may affect recommendation algorithms and streaming rates. Platforms such as Mazufa offer an annual offer-and-agreement mechanism, according to the fees and deductions set out in the offer and the agreement.

Step four: re-upload your releases using the same ISRC codes

When re-uploading the songs on the new platform, use the same ISRC codes attached to your releases at the other distributor. This helps to:

  • Preserve historical streaming data on some platforms.
  • Avoid splitting the stats between two versions of the same song.
  • Make verification easier if you are registered with performing rights organisations such as ASCAP or BMI.

If you do not have the ISRC codes, look for them in the other distributor's dashboard under each release's details before deleting.

Step five: delete your releases from the other distributor after confirming publication

Wait until you are sure your new releases have appeared on Spotify, Apple Music and the rest of the main platforms, then delete them from the other distributor. Deletion usually takes 5 to 7 business days to disappear from the platforms.

An important point: past earnings will not be affected

Any earnings you collected during your distribution period with the other distributor are not affected by deleting the releases, but deletion stops the collection of earnings from any new streams through it. The correct order, then, is: withdraw your earnings first, document everything, publish on the new platform, then delete.

In short: the move is possible with no losses if you act in order

Moving your music from another distributor goes smoothly if you follow the steps in the right order. Accumulated earnings are safe as long as you withdraw them before deleting, and historical data is protected if you use the same ISRC codes. The main gain from this move is getting rid of the annual fees and moving to a distribution platform that shows you the revenue share and its terms before you sign.
