SOUTH-CENTRAL ASIA

Releases coming out of Afghanistan lean toward Afghan pop, ghazal, rubab and dambura instrumental music, and a growing Dari-language rap scene. A large share of recording and mixing happens in diaspora studios as well as at home. Artists record mainly in Dari and Pashto, with occasional Urdu, and titles are written in the Perso-Arabic script. Metadata then needs one fixed Latin transliteration of the artist name, a language tag matching what is sung, and the right-to-left original kept in an alternate title field.

Money here is counted in Afghan afghani (AFN). Reporting is shown in the currency the platform pays out in, not converted per market, so allow for movement in the exchange rate between a statement and a withdrawal. Audiences mostly find releases through YouTube, satellite music channels and audio shared through messaging apps. Store and platform coverage in this territory varies and remains subject to current availability, eligibility and platform rules.
