WESTERN AFRICA

Releases coming out of Senegal lean toward mbalax with sabar drumming, Senegalese rap, afro-fusion and religious repertoire. Dakar has a long-standing rap and mbalax recording culture. Artists record mainly in Wolof and French, with Pulaar, and titles are written in the Latin alphabet, with Ajami also used. Metadata then stays simple: one consistent artist-name spelling, accented characters left intact, and a language tag that matches what is sung. Setting these fields correctly at upload also avoids duplicate artist profiles later.

The currency in use is West African CFA franc (XOF). Earnings are reported in the currency the platform pays out in rather than in each local currency, so the rate between reporting and withdrawal matters when planning. Most listening happens through YouTube, FM radio and club and ceremony performance. Which stores and platforms a release reaches in this territory varies and is subject to current availability, eligibility and platform rules. Checking territory settings before delivery avoids surprises after release.
